Forestry Museum of Lapland Association
The Forestry Museum of Lapland Association was founded in 1962 to preserve and exhibit logging and log floating heritage and maintain the Forestry Museum of Lapland in Pöykkölä, Rovaniemi. The association opened the museum to visitors in 1968.
The operations of the association are non-profit cultural activities. These activities are supported by the sponsors listed on the supporters page.
The aim of the Forestry Museum of Lapland is to preserve and exhibit the material and immaterial heritage related to the industrial use of the forests of Lapland. With its operation, the museum strengthens the local people's understanding, knowledge, and appreciation of the history of forestry and its significance to Lapland.
The Forestry Museum's preservation activities are directed specifically towards the chiefly handicraft focused period of logging and log floating, ranging from around the end of the 1800s to the 1960s. The museum's collections are available for examination on the Kantapuu database.
The Forestry Museum is chiefly open during the summers.
