Getting Here & the Grounds

The museum is situated in the suburb of Pöykkölä in Rovaniemi. We are easily accessible by car, bus, bike, or walking. The area has 14 buildings, most of which are museum exhibits. In addition the outdoor areas feature some artefacts as well as works by local artists. You may also spot some critters such as hares or squirrels, which enjoy the quiet nights of the museum grounds.

The Forestry Technician's quarters feature a cafe, serving drinks and small snacks. The majority of the buildings and the grounds are wheelchair accessible, although some outdoor areas may prove difficult terrain for those with movement limitations. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor areas, as long as they are leashed at all times and all droppings are collected. Please let us know that you have a dog with you when getting your tickets!

Car

The easiest route to the museum from the city center is across the Jätkänkynttilä bridge, and following Kajaanintie until you see the signs pointing to "Metsämuseo". The drive takes about ten minutes. Free parking is available at the museum. Driving onto the museum grounds themselves is not allowed, but may be permitted under special circumstances, e.g. if requested for reasons of accessibility.

Biking and Walking

Biking or walking to the museum from the city center is easiest via Kajaanintie, roughly the same route as by car. Majority of the journey features a light traffic route separate from the main road, making biking or walking more safe and pleasant, especially with kids. The distance from the city center is about 4,5 kilometers, and takes around an hour to walk or 20 minutes to bike.
